Profile of Fuchu
Geographical position and Terrain

Fuchu City is situated roughly in the center of big Tokyo, and is around 22 Km west of Shinjuku, the secondary city center of Tokyo. It’s area is 29.34 Km2 with a east-west distance of 8.75 Km and a north-south distance of 6.70 Km. To its south is the Tama River, and to the north of this river is flat land stretching for about 1.7 Km. Here, an east-west cliff line that is about 6 to 7 meters in height can be seen and stretching further north for about 2.5 Km is the Tachikawa terrace. This terrace is 70 meters above sea level on its west end and 40 meters above sea level on its east end. The city’s highest point is located in 3 Choume, Musashidai, which is 82 meters above sea level.

"Ume",which starts blooming before all the other flowers, symbolizes the wish of city citizens to look after nature while aspiring to a rich civil life.

The City Bird is “Hibari”(Skylark)

Imagine the “Hibari” flying straight through the clear blue sky. It symbolizes Fuchu City’s continuous advances to make a city that "everybody wishes to live in."
